Most questions have a quick answer below. The ones about getting your journal back are first, because they matter most.

Your journal, and how not to lose it

I'm changing phone. How do I bring my journal with me?

Your journal lives on your phone and nowhere else, so it needs a copy before you switch. Two ways, and you can use both:

On iPhone, your journal is also included in your device's iCloud backup, so setting up a new iPhone from that backup brings Calluna's data with it. That happens on its own — but it only helps if you actually restore from a backup, which is why the two options above are still worth doing.

I uninstalled the app. Is everything gone?

If you had no backup, yes — and we can't recover it, because we never had it. That's the other side of a journal that stays on your phone: nobody can read it, and nobody can bring it back for you.

My photos aren't in the export

They are, if you exported the .zip. The older .json export only contained text. If a photo is missing from the zip, it usually means the file was removed from the phone's storage outside the app — reinstalling won't bring it back.

I can't find the Google Drive option

It only appears where it can actually work. If the option isn't there, this build of the app isn't set up for Drive on your platform — use "Export to a file" instead, which never depends on anything external.

Reminders

My evening reminder doesn't arrive

Three things to check, in this order:

Reminders never contain anything you wrote. They're generic, and composed on your phone.

How do I stop them?

One switch in Settings → Reminder. Turning it off also deletes the corresponding record on our side, immediately.

Privacy and the app's behaviour

Do I need an account?

No. No email address, no password, nothing to create. You open the app and you write.

How do I lock the app?

Settings → Privacy, if your phone has a fingerprint sensor, face recognition, or a passcode set. It's a door on the app, not encryption of the files underneath — enough against someone picking up your phone, not against a determined attacker with the device in hand.

How do I delete everything?

"Erase everything", in Settings. It clears what's on the phone. If you had backups on your Drive, delete the "Calluna" folder there as well — those files are yours, in your account, and only you can remove them.

Can I turn off the anonymous statistics?

Yes, in one tap: Settings → Privacy → Anonymous statistics. What is and isn't measured is spelled out in the privacy policy.

Reporting a problem

If something is broken, the following makes it far more likely to get fixed quickly:

Please don't send screenshots of your journal entries unless the bug is in them. They're yours, and there's rarely any need for us to see them.

Things Calluna deliberately doesn't do

Some questions come back often enough to answer here, because the answer is "on purpose, and it won't change":
